It’s a big moment for one of our gymnasts as Michael Torres, a member of our Houston Gymnastics Academy men’s team, prepares to compete at the Youth Olympic Games taking place in Buenos Aires, Argentina from October 6-18, 2018. Similar to the Summer and Winter Olympics, this event that is held every four years. However, this event is exclusive to athletes ages 15 to 18 years old.
While these high-performance athletes will showcase their gymnastics skills on the international stage, outside the field of play they will participate alongside spectators in educational and cultural activities that promote Olympism. A great opportunity to not only promote athletic achievement, Buenos Aires 2018 will inspire these young athletes to adopt the Olympic values: Respect, Friendship and Excellence.
Michael, after earning his spot at the Youth Olympic Games by competing at the Junior Pan-American Championships in Buenos Aires last June, will be competing on all the Men’s Artistic Gymnastics events. As you know, these opportunities come on the heels of hard work and countless hours of dedication. Michael has been dreaming of this moment, and working hard to reach his goal, after seeing one of his former teammates from the Puerto Rico National Team compete in the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in China. Eager to show the world what he can do, Michael is looking forward to competing against gymnasts who will be representing their respective countries in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The Houston Gymnastics Academy family is incredibly proud of Michael and we’re eager to follow his journey and share in his success at Buenos Aires 2018.
