At Houston Gymnastics Academy we believe in big dreams and our coaches work tirelessly to help make our gymnasts’ dreams a reality. So, when we were offered the chance to help make a young cancer survivor’s dream come true, our team flipped for the opportunity.
Three gymnasts from our HGA Women’s Team, Jasmine Taylor, Rebecca Priske and Eryn Escondo, along with four members of the U.S. National Men’s Gymnastics Team from Cypress Academy, had the privilege of escorting Kinsley down the runway as she lived out her dream of being a gymnast for the night!
Kinsley, a cancer survivor who has been cancer-free since December 2017, is a brave and spunky 5-year-old little girl who battled Wilms’ Tumor, a rare childhood kidney cancer commonly known as nephroblastoma. This particular type of kidney cancer is the most common cancer of the kidneys and primarily affects children ages three to five years.
While no child should have to face cancer, Kinsley’s effervescent personality was on full display at the Pediatric Cancer Foundation’s “Fashion Funds for the Cure” event held at the Houston Galleria. Kinsley, along with ten other brave children who are either cancer survivors or are currently battling cancer, dressed up in the uniform of their dream profession to strut their stuff on the runway alongside their role models.
Misty Baxter, our HGA Preschool Director said it best after the event, “It was truly an honor to bring some of our women’s team members to this event and watch them light up as this brave little girl talked to them about wanting to be a gymnast like them. They work hard in the gym and it’s great to take a break and see how much they are admired by the future generation of gymnasts.”
